- We'll be honest here, LINE messenger by a company called Naver is not something we're familiar with but our audience certainly is. Boasting about being in 230 countries, LINE is a VOIP/chat service that is evidently popular in a lot of Asian markets so it's great to see it come to Windows Phone.
Available already on iOS, Android, PC and Mac, LINE is actually a well done app with a snazzy Metro UI and decent enough features to make us take a look at it. Of course none of our friends use it so it's hard for us to take it for a spin on such short notice, but loading up the app was a refreshing change from some other chat programs out there.
The app doesn't have a killer feature per se but it does contain the usual fare: send messages, photos, videos, voice messages, as well as location info. It also has a thing called "stickers" for conveying emotion which we suppose is a bit quaint. Note at least with this release there is no VOIP just chat.
Like all messaging apps, your usage is completely dependent upon your social circle and if they use it. Having said that, LINE is actually quite nice and we're a bit jealous that we don't have an immediate need for it---with Kik, WhatsApp, TalkBox, OctroTalk, GroupMe and IM+ already available, it's tough to find a spot for LINE. But for those that need or use said service, it looks like there's a winner here for you.
Pick up LINE by Naver for Windows Phone here in the Marketplace. Thanks, PsycheBlue, for the tip

Amazon Appstore set to finally launch in Europe this summer?
Posted by Unknown
We first got a hint of an International launch of the Amazon Appstore back in September of last year. Back then though, it turned out to be some kind of huge error on the part of Amazon, and access was soon revoked to anyone outside the US. If the latest rumors are to be believed however, Europe could finally be receiving official access as soon as this summer.
Sources familiar with the matter have been speaking to the guys over at AllThingsD. And, while timing is a little vague at this moment in time, Amazon are apparently to announce plans next week over accepting app submissions from developers.
The bigger question this poses -- will it be followed by a European launch of the Kindle Fire? While it is accepted that the Amazon Appstore monetizes well for developers, without the Kindle Fire following, many consumers will see little reason to use it aside from the daily free app. After all, Google Play offers up not only apps, but also books and movies too. Europe doesn't currently benefit from any of the Amazon online content services aside from the MP3 store, so we'll have to wait for the relevant deals to be done before there is any sniff of the Fire emerging. Bringing the Appstore could well be the first step though.

Hexage Releases EVAC & Free Robotek Game for the PlayBook
Posted by Unknown
Earlier this month Hexage committed to bringing their whole game library to the PlayBook. They started with two games, Radiant and Radiant Defense, and now they have brought two more. This time we have the free Robotek strategy game that is very engaging though it does not have a specific genre I can pin on it. EVAC on the other hand is an arcade style puzzle game that has you avoiding the enemies and completing the 32 levels as you set traps for your enemies.
Check out both in App World:
You can find video demos of both below:

Thanks Peter for pointing this one out (via CrackBerry I think)

Windows Phone Game Review: Flick Baseball
Posted by Unknown
There's a simple baseball game over at the Windows Phone Marketplace that challenging enough to keep from getting boring, nicely animated and a decent way to pass short bits of time with. Flick Baseball is a pitch and hit baseball where you have five outs to see how many runs you can score. It may not be a game you'll play for hours on end but Flick Baseball is a decent option to choose when you need help passing short bits of time.

No extra free storage for AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S III owners! The horror!
Posted by Unknown
U.S. AT&T and Verizon customers Select carriers have opted-out of the promotion on phones otherwise eligible. Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon are among these carriers not currently participating. It's not like you can't get a buttload of free Dropbox space already, though, with the usual 2GB of initial space, plus another 500MB for each referral, up to 18GB. (And if you have a friend with an HTC One phone, you probably can finagle a bit more, too.) If it's not worth it to AT&T and Verizon in this case, them's the breaks. End of the world? Not hardly. And if you really do need that 50 gigabytes, you can always pony up the $9.99 a month (or $99 a year) in that old-fashion, capitalistic manner.

Dear Berry: Birthday notifications no longer appear in the calendar
Posted by Unknown
Hello. So I am having a small issue with birthdays and my calendar. So I input birthdays into some contacts so they show up on my calendar as normal. But I deleted the occurrence so it wouldn't show up any more. Well now I want them back and to show up on my calendar again. But I don't see any way to do that. Even if I delete the birthday then re add it on the same contact it won't show up. If you know how to get that to happen? Any help would be appreciated I have a Bold 9900 on OS 7.1.
Thanks GeorgeThis conversation continued over several emails. Click on the break to see what transpired! read moreCrackBerry.com's feed sponsored by ShopCrackBerry.com. Dear Berry: Birthday notifications no longer appear in the calendar

Official Foursquare app gets Windows Phone Tango certified but no overhaul for new service
Posted by Unknown
The official Foursquare app still focuses on Check-ins
A few interesting tidbits about the official Foursquare app for Windows Phone that you may be interested in on this lazy Sunday. Even though we swear by 4th & Mayor, some of you like the unique design of the Foursquare app even if it's a tad slow by comparison.Today the app has an update to version 2.11 which is certainly fairly minor but still important. The first one is that it now runs on devices with 256MB of RAM aka "Tango phones" like the Lumia 610. While less than 2% of the apps of the Marketplace are non-Tango optimized they tend to be some big titles (mostly Xbox LIVE games), so it's nice to get that nod. The second update is the more vague "bug fixes" which will hopefully address some issues some of you may have had recently.Perhaps the bigger news (and non-surprising) is the official Foursquare app has not been update to the new "5.0" system like Android and iOS. Those apps were completely rebuilt and re-coded from the ground up with Check-ins losing their primary status for the service. That's right, most users evidently weren't even using Foursquare for check-ins but rather recommendations of nearby locations.Check-ins in the new Foursquare have been sidelined as the service expands to be more Yelp-ish with new features like Explore and Lists. Photos are also more prominent now as users are more likely now to document their experiences. Of course the much superior 4th & Mayor app already has all of these features built in but with the more original focus on check-ins.No word on if Foursquare will bother scrapping and re-doing the current Windows Phone app to reflect these new changes. Our bet is they'll wait till Windows Phone 8 comes out to release the overhaul.Pick up the official Foursquare app here in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Users can also grab the free 3rd party version, 4th & Mayor here instead. Thanks, Brian, for the heads up
